Washington D.C.

Welcome to the Nation’s Capital! Home to free museums, national and historic monuments, and one of the most expensive cities in the nation to live. If you’re moving from New York City or San Francisco you won’t have any sticker shock, but for the rest of the country living in D.C. could be a financial adjustment…but so worth it! Even though the housing prices here are high, the salaries here are just as high and some of the highest in the nation, so it all balances out. Washington D.C. is not a state, but a District with a population of 705,000 people (as of 2019). The population has continued to increase year after year since the early 2000’s. The city is divided into four quadrants with the Capitol Building at the center with over 131 neighborhoods to choose from. The northwest quadrant is the largest and has the most neighborhoods and the southeast quadrant continues to be the most affordable part of the city. The median home value in D.C hovers around $650,000. Getting around the city is fairly easy as they continue to expand the metro system, with now 6 color lines running from every corner. Neighborhoods conveniently located near metro stations that are more walkable to dining will generally cost a premium. Locals refer to D.C. and surrounding suburbs as the DMV, which stands for DC, Maryland, and Virginia because all three jurisdictions are so close to each other you can call any of them home once you live here!
